Jill Satterfield
Jill Satterfield founder of Vajra Yoga & Meditation (VY&M), has been practicing yoga primarily in the Iyengar tradition, for 30 years and teaching for 20. She has been a student of Buddhism for 17 years, which informs both her practice and teaching.
VY&M developed as a natural extension of Jill’s practices and with the kind support of her teachers, Ajahn Amaro and Mingyur Rinpoche. This intuitive synthesis of yoga and Buddhism arose as Jill healed from a debilitating physical condition. While on long silent meditation retreats, Jill renewed herself physically by re-training particular functions of her autonomic nervous system. Practicing meditation, yoga postures and visualization enabled her to heal beyond expectations. When she discovered the power of combining these practices, she knew she had found her life’s work.
For 15 years, Jill has traveled and taught with some of the most respected Buddhist teachers of our time. Vajra Yoga is a pioneer in bringing yoga and Buddhism together into a seamless blend. Vajra has been taught at the Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock Center, the Garrison Institute and many Shambhala Centers around the country. Jill teaches regularly with her teachers Mingyur Rinpoche and Ajahn Amaro.
VY&M has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Tricycle, Fit Yoga, Self, More, the Shambhala Sun and Marie Claire. Jill was hailed as one of the four leading yoga and Buddhist teachers in the country by Shambhala Sun.
Vajra Yoga’s Social Action Teacher Training (SATT) is a yoga and meditation training designed for those wishing to work professionally and skillfully with at risk youth and adults, those with chronic illness, and people in recovery programs – it is the first of it’s kind.
Jill is a founding faculty member of the Spirit Rock Center’s Yoga and Buddhism teacher training, and the Kripalu Institute’s Integrative Leadership Program. She teaches and lectures regularly on the mind and body connection.
