Homeopathy

Health is a state of vitality that enables us to pursue our lives with creativity and purpose. When we are healthy we feel happy and whole. We react to the stresses in our lives with flexibility, and return to a state of balance quickly and effortlessly, rather than getting stuck in unhealthy patterns that limit our freedom. Our relationships are more harmonious and we make choices that move us forward on our unique paths, rather than getting us stuck along the way. Homeopathy addresses the imbalances that lead to health issues by activating the body's own healing capacity. It promotes cure on a deep level by shifting the long-standing patterns that cause disease, rather than just removing the symptoms.

The origin of homeopathy

Homeopathy is a therapeutic modality that originated with German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the early 1800's. Hahnemann was distressed by the brutality of the medicine of the day, in which huge doses of poisonous substances were regularly administered to patients, often with disastrous consequences. He began experimenting with increasingly smaller doses of these medicinal substances and discovered a way to energetically activate them, which enabled extremely dilute doses to be used. These remedies retain their therapeutic effects but the toxicity and side effects are eliminated. The result is a collection of remedies made from plant, mineral and animal sources that are gentle enough to be used by everyone, including pregnant women and babies. Today the homeopathic materia medica has grown to include thousands of remedies and homeopathy is widely used throughout Europe and India and is growing rapidly in the US.

The homeopathic consultation

Homeopaths look at each person individually. We treat the person, rather than the disease. Ten people with a named illness, such as depression or asthma, may be treated with ten different remedies, depending on their individual expression of the illness. The homeopath's job is to match the totality of your symptoms and experience to a remedy that suits you. During your first consultation I will need to gain a full understanding of your health concerns and the unique way that you go through life. Physical, mental and emotional symptoms will all be given equal consideration. Because homeopathy treats the individual, there is no limit to the conditions that can be treated. Some clients come to homeopathy with persistent chronic conditions, some because they just don't feel well, and others for an occasional tune-up. Homeopathy works well on it’s own, or as a compliment to conventional medical treatment. Homeopathy does not replace the medical care and diagnosis that you receive from your doctor.
